Multimedia for Enhancing Learning

Today, multimedia has become an important tool to help young learners to bolster their

educational experience. Video usage in class allows better illustration and demonstrates and

simplifies complex ideas through audiovisual learning elements. Many institutions have started emphasizing the benefits of teaching with video in the classroom. With progressive strategies and imminent efforts from the staff, the technique has gained enough positive testimonials to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

With screen media becoming increasingly common in young children's lives, the impact of these technologies can be altered for literacy, home routine, and in the classroom. Therefore, the era is gradually seeing an emerging practice of audiovisuals amongst parents, teachers, and policymakers for reviewing this topic. For instance, Kimberly Buenger, an early childhood special education teacher at Harmony Early Childhood Center in the Olathe of the U.S., has found a golden ticket for accomplishing goals related to technology use, language development, social skills, and assessment. She plays the game 'The Journalist' with her 3-5-year-old toddlers. Every week, she signs a young journalist amongst the classmates who takes pictures on the tablet during various student activities and reports one shot during the closing circle. This picture is then shown to the whole class on a projector to facilitate a discussion about it.

Creative activities like such have proved to provide natural means to assess a variety of

communication skills. For instance, the picture encourages students to recall events and

accordingly answer various questions based on the given image. Furthermore, the freedom to document these activities increases motivation to speak up in a larger group.

In education, particularly in online learning modules, multimedia is an excellent source of

supplementary course content to initiate innovative interactions. Its ability to promote more

profound meaningful education also holds the power to create a learner-centered educational environment. Its effectiveness in transforming traditional, face-to-face delivery to complete or blended online learning attire becomes a core part of designing, developing, and bringing substantial changes to the learners learning strength. This includes texts, audio, images, animation and video as a medium of learning and content that improves the learner's understanding. Other sources also include communication technologies, social networks, and games that also focus on multimedia-related growth.

Another most popular type is 'the talking head' style videos where the instructor delivers a lecture that is usually pre-recorded in a studio environment. This can be delivered as an entire lecture or a short lecture bite and sometimes as a media summarising critical points of a topic in PowerPoint slides. The development of Khan Academy-style videos includes instructors drawing freehand on a digital tablet or smart-boards. These conceptual videos are usually short and lie between five to ten minutes of duration. It allows instructors to place themselves on a similar level to the learner, thereby providing enhanced engagement rather than just an instructor's mode.

There is no denying that this use of multimedia has enabled reinforcement of key learning

concepts, promoting mastery learning, which has advantages over traditional lecture-based

education. An interactive class can be only fruitful if students are less prone to distractions. The use of other platforms can keep down the number of obstacles during learning. Where students are more attracted to television, videos in online and offline classrooms can help the teacher get a good grip of students' attention and eagerness to learn more.
